Truck Manufacturers Are In For a Better Second Half of the Year

Tanker for ArticleWith the looming arrival of new emission regulations, truck manufacturers are predicted to see a more promising second half of the year.

According to Scania, Volvo and Daimler, demand has been increasing even though slow and fragile economic conditions threaten to spoil the fun.

Delayed orders from the first half of the year finally have the green light from buyers who were otherwise sceptical about the future of the industry. The idea is that buyers want to avoid the additional expense of vehicles once the Euro 6 emissions regulations are put into action in 2014.

In a stunning increase, Volvo has stated that their total truck deliveries went up by 35% in the second quarter of the year, however Daimler have reported a lower 1% increase in sales. Scania has also said the business is increasing production to meet the ever increasing interest amongst buyers.

Sometimes though, the figures don’t match the facts, as half-year UK registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show a 10.4% drop compared with the same period in 2012, June saw a significant rise of 11.7%. Perhaps this is because sudden interest and realisation of the Euro 6 emissions regulations have caused decision makers to re-think their outgoings.

Two- and three-axle artic registrations rose 84.7% and 29.2% in June, and are up 1.2% so far this year. With such good results already so earlier on in the second half of the year the SMMT have speculated  that a healthier third and fourth quarter could be on the way for truck registrations overall.
